Just as a contractor needs to have the proper tools to get the job done, your survival depends on the quality of the survival gear that you have. Just because you have a pistol and some ammo does not mean that you are ready for full-blown survival mode. Having the right gear is the difference between living and dying. If you are just beginning your survival prep work then you are going to need more gear. Likewise, if you are a seasoned veteran in the world of survival you hopefully have a good base to begin with.

The most important survival gear is determined by the situations that you are preparing for and the location that you live. One of the items that every prepper needs is a good quality backpack. A backpack is great for any survival scenario simply because it allows you the ability to carry your gear in a compact area. Additionally, backpack storage is a good way to store items in a weatherproof environment. Ease of use and options are always things to look for in a high quality backpack.

If you haven’t given much thought to the survival gear that you might need then you might feel a bit overwhelmed when studying this aspect. Keep the faith and remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day and your survival kit will not be finished in a day. It takes time and money to build up a substantial collection. Make a plan of action and attack the list one item at a time.

Items such as knives, fire starters, guns, ammunition, water purification systems, air purifiers, clothing, shoes, and food, are all very important. You will need to have a good supply of each of these items but you will also need to be prepared for events and circumstances that do not allow for mass collections. In this case your survival gear will need to be minimal and your skills will need to be maximized.

Understanding that a vast majority of the population is not adequately prepared for situations that will call for prolonged self reliance, there area few basics that every survival expert will recommend that you have. Not only will you need a weatherproof backpack but you will also need to have the right gear that will allow you to stay warm, stay dry, and potentially acquire food either through fishing or hunting.

Keep in mind that survival gear is not all about stockpiling cans of food or being able to store hundreds of gallons of fresh water. While this is certainly a great idea, and it is the cornerstone of any great survivalist, having the basic survival gear will allow you to sustain yourself in times of emergency.
